Travellers have been fascinated by the Maldives for centuries, from the ancient Greeks to fourteenth-century travel writer Ibn Battuta, from cookery author Madhur Jaffrey to contemporary essayist Alain de Botton. All are drawn by the unique cultural exchanges that give life to these far-flung islands, from fishing to the spice trade to the Maldives’ Islamic religion. A number of the islands are turned over to tourism—among them, Cocoa Island by COMO (known locally as Makunufushi), a luxury resort regarded for its private locale as well as some of the best diving in the Indian Ocean.
All services mentioned in this COMO destination guide can be arranged or supplied to guests of Cocoa Island. Some, however, are available only be request, and are dependent upon local suppliers with Cocoa Island facilitating the experiences wherever possible.
