This summer, Cocoa Island by COMO — our private island resort in The Maldives — is inviting you to put your health first with David Melladew, our visiting expert in Oriental Medicine, who will be at COMO Shambhala Retreat from June 20th until July 4th.
David, who earned his Master’s degree in Oriental Medicine from Pacific College in San Diego, California, is a licensed acupuncturist and Qigong instructor based full-time at COMO Shambhala Estate in Bali, where he oversees the Oriental Medicine programme.
During his residency, David will be leading acupuncture and Qigong sessions. During the acupuncture treatments, David stimulates ‘acu-points’ by inserting thin needles through the skin at specific locations on the body to produce physiological effects. Acupuncture can treat musculo-skeletal problems such as arthritis and tendonitis, as well general pain and stiffness of the muscles and joints. It can also be used to address digestive and respiratory conditions, sleep disorders, and stress. His other speciality, Qigong, combines meditative breathing with postural alignments to promote circulation, mental focus and general wellbeing – fans of Tai Chi will enjoy this discipline.
As well as treatments, David will be giving a series of lectures at Cocoa Island – aiming to help people arrange their life according to the principles of Oriental Medicine – as well as holding private, one-on-one wellness consultations. After a thorough health check and discussion about any personal wellbeing goals, David will devise a bespoke routine to achieve a truly healthy lifestyle — blending a variety of methods, from diet change to Qigong, herbal medicine to massage therapy.
Prices are subject to government tax and service charge. Guests can attend David’s complimentary group Qigong sessions and wellness and lifestyle lectures. The schedule of the complementary classes can be found at the COMO Shambhala desk.
