COMO Uma Punakha is located a five-hour drive from COMO Uma Paro in another of Bhutan’s great valleys. Steeped in the traditions that surround the property, it is the ideal location—among pine-clad valleys, lush vegetation, rushing rivers and snow-capped mountains—for those to whom the joy of discovery is reason enough for a journey.

  • Punakha Dzong: Built in the 17th century by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal (who founded the Kingdom of Bhutan), the fortress once housed the country’s government.
  • Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten: A fine example of Bhutanese architecture and artistic traditions
  • Wangdue Phodrang: A 45-minute drive from Punakha, has a rich tapestry of ancient Buddhist temples and monasteries. Highlights include Gangtey Monastery and the ‘big golden temple’ Dargay Goempa.
  • Gangtey Valley: A wild, unspoiled glacial valley, rimmed by deep forest and dwarf bamboo. It is also the winter nesting ground of the globally threatened Black-Necked Crane.
