Luxury Exploration of the Maldivian Seas Onboard 'CAMERON', COMO's First Luxury Yacht

January, 2016

For a different way to navigate the waters in the Maldives, COMO Hotels and Resorts is offering a new luxury experience with ‘Cameron', a 68-foot Hatteras yacht. Using this live-aboard vessel, guests can dip in and out of COMO’s two resorts, Cocoa Island and Maalifushi, to experience two very different atolls.

Intimate Cocoa Island, situated in the South Malé Atoll, offers 33 overwater suites surrounded by a private reef, with some of the world’s best diving opportunities just off the soft-white-sands. Thaa Atoll is home to Maalifushi, among a string of uninhabited islands. As well as COMO Shambhala therapies and world-class cuisine, guests can also enjoy near-exclusive access to some of the archipelago's best surf, diving and snorkelling opportunities. Between the two resorts there is a night’s easy sailing on ‘Cameron’, incorporating cobalt waters and white-sand islets where you can sleep under clear starry nights.

Usually anchored at Maalifushi, ’Cameron’ is available to charter for a few hours, or can be booked for multi-night itineraries to catch a specific wave, a whale shark migration, or for an extended honeymoon adventure. Staff are personalised to each excursion, be it chefs for picnics on marble-white sandbanks, or night dives requiring a specialist instructor. Our marine biologist will take your children snorkelling, while our sport fishing guides will help you land tuna, wahoo, marlin or sailfish spotted from the yacht’s 40ft tower.

COMO’s signature discretion and cossetting service is what makes ‘Cameron’ one of the most unique boats of her kind. Like a floating hotel suite, she crosses the archipelago in safety, with a top speed of 32 knots. For those who want to just kick back in comfort, there is not just an air-conditioned fly bridge but a polished walnut-lined lounge. The three luxurious cabins are configured as a master suite, queen and twin — all with ensuite bathrooms — and finessed as elegantly as COMO’s hotels.

About Cocoa Island by COMO

Cocoa Island is a private island in the Maldives. Wrapped in white sandy beaches and turquoise waters, the resort is in close proximity to some of the best dive sites in the world. Yet it is also accessible, for the resort is located in South Male’s coral atolls, a 35-minute speedboat transfer from the international airport. The tranquil setting is enhanced by the understated elegance of Cocoa Island’s rooms, which resemble local dhoni fishing boats and feature direct access to the shallow lagoon. All have a private outdoor sun deck, as well as spacious living and sleeping areas decorated in flowing white muslin. The pale colours contribute to the overall feeling of quiet, contemporary design. Ufaa, the resort’s restaurant, serves fresh local produce and seafood cooked in the Keralan style, while Faru bar overlooks the pristine infinity-edge pool. Cocoa Island’s spa, COMO Shambhala Retreat, offers rebalancing treatments, including Ayurveda, massages and facials.

About Maalifushi by COMO

Maalifushi by COMO opened in the Maldives in January 2014. It is the first of its kind in the pristine Thaa Atoll, a 60-minute seaplane journey from the capital, Malé. Maalifushi is the ultimate away-from-it-all destination with white beach, inland tropical greenery and a cobalt lagoon. Koichiro Ikebuchi’s design showcases his sensitive approach to nature and cultural authenticity in garden villas with pools, overwater villas and large multi-room family suites. Maalifushi also provides the ideal base for exploring the surrounding seas through surfing, sailing and diving, with instruction for all these activities available on site. Maalifushi has three popular restaurants: ‘Thila’, for family-friendly cuisine; ‘Madi’, for local, Mediterranean, Indonesian and Thai-accented dishes; and ‘Tai’ for gourmet Japanese. Guests can enjoy holistic Asian therapies at the COMO Shambhala Retreat at Maalifushi, which also offers yoga and a fully-equipped gym, with the guest experience from beginning to end defined by COMO’s exacting, passionate service.
