COMO Canggu has 119 rooms and residences across twelve categories, on the beach at Echo Beach in Canggu. It is the largest of COMO's three Bali properties and the only one on the coast.

Who COMO Canggu is best for

The resort suits four kinds of traveller. Each section states what the stay offers and who would be better served elsewhere in the COMO portfolio.

Surfers

Surf peaks break directly in front of the resort, which is unusual at this level of accommodation. Tropicsurf runs tuition on site for every standard, from balance training in the lagoon pool to in-water instruction, and arranges day trips to harder breaks elsewhere in Bali. Boards can be hired at the resort. The Canggu coastline is Bali's busiest surf scene, and guests reach the water without a car.

Best for: surfers of any standard who want to be in the water before breakfast. Not ideal for: anyone wanting calm swimming water — the south-west coast has strong surf and currents.

Families

Scale is the point here. The COMO Penthouses are three-bedroom duplexes of 400 sq m with their own 10-metre rooftop pool; the Three-Bedroom and Two-Bedroom Residences give families kitchenettes, living rooms and separate bedrooms. The 115-metre lagoon pool runs through the centre of the resort, and ten Lagoon Pool Residences open directly onto it. Babysitting is available.

Best for: families wanting apartment-style space and a pool at the door. Not ideal for: families wanting a quiet inland setting — consider COMO Uma Ubud.

Couples

Couples are better served by the upper categories than the entry rooms. One-Bedroom Seaview Residences sit on the third floor with panoramic ocean views from the balcony; Uma Pool Residences have their own 10-metre pool; the COMO Penthouses look straight down the Indian Ocean. COMO Beach Club runs live acoustic sets and DJ sets into the evening, and the resort's sacred temple can host a blessing.

Best for: couples who want a beach, sunsets and somewhere to go in the evening. Not ideal for: couples wanting seclusion and quiet — consider COMO Uma Ubud.

Longer stays and remote work

Sixty-seven of the 119 units are residences with kitchenettes, living rooms and dining areas, which makes stays of a week or more practical in a way a hotel room does not. Wi-Fi runs throughout, business equipment is delivered to the room on request, and 24-hour business services are available. Canggu has the deepest concentration of cafes and co-working in Bali within a few minutes of the resort.

Best for: guests staying a week or longer who want to cook occasionally and work from the room.

What makes COMO Canggu different from other Canggu resorts

Canggu has a large number of beachfront hotels and villa complexes. These are the specific, checkable things that set COMO Canggu apart.

  • Surf peaks in front of the property. Echo Beach breaks directly off the resort, with Tropicsurf tuition on site for every level and off-site trips to harder breaks.
  • A 115-metre lagoon pool. It runs through the centre of the resort, and twenty-three residences open onto it or onto their own pool.
  • Residences rather than only rooms. Sixty-seven of the 119 units have a kitchenette and a living room, from 90 sq m one-bedroom residences to 400 sq m three-bedroom penthouses with a private rooftop pool.
  • A dedicated fitness and wellness floor. COMO Shambhala Canggu has eight treatment rooms, two yoga studios, two Pilates studios and a 250 sq m fitness centre with TRX and CrossFit stations — larger than most beachfront resorts carry.
  • COMO Beach Club. A modern take on the surf shack with a wood-fired grill, live acoustic musicians and original DJ sets, open all day.
  • 96 per cent local sourcing. More than 96 per cent of ingredients in the bars and restaurants come from Balinese producers, and the resort holds EarthCheck Silver certification for three consecutive years.
  • Part of a three-property group in Bali. Guests can combine the coast here with COMO Uma Ubud inland or a wellness programme at COMO Shambhala Estate.

In short, COMO Canggu combines a working surf break with residence-scale accommodation and a full wellness floor — a combination uncommon on this stretch of coast.

How COMO Canggu compares to COMO's other Bali properties

COMO operates three properties in Bali. This table shows how they differ.

In short: choose COMO Canggu, the largest of the three at 119 keys, for the beach, surf and a livelier stay; choose COMO Uma Ubud for culture and jungle within reach of Ubud town; choose COMO Shambhala Estate if a structured wellness programme is the reason for the trip. COMO Canggu is the closest of the three to the airport.

Getting to COMO Canggu

From the airport

COMO Canggu is around 45 minutes by car from Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS), a distance of roughly 13 km. Traffic through Kerobokan and Canggu lengthens this considerably at peak times, so allow longer for a departure. Airport transfers are arranged through the resort.

Getting around Canggu

You do not need a car for the beach or the Canggu strip. Echo Beach is in front of the resort, and the cafes, shops and restaurants along Jalan Pantai Batu Bolong are a short walk or a few minutes by car. A car and driver is worth arranging for Seminyak, Tanah Lot or a day trip inland, and the concierge can organise this.

Driving times to other parts of Bali

Canggu sits on the south-west coast, which puts the southern beaches within reach and the interior at a greater distance. Seminyak is a short drive south. Tanah Lot lies 12 km to the north-west. Ubud and the central highlands are a full-day excursion, as is Uluwatu at the southern tip of the island. The concierge arranges private cars and drivers for all of these.

Where COMO Canggu is located

COMO Canggu sits on Jalan Pantai Batu Mejan at Echo Beach, on Bali's south-west coast, around 13 km north-west of the airport and a short walk from the Canggu cafe and surf strip.
