Overview of COMO Alpina Dolomites
COMO Alpina Dolomites is a modern architectural work set against the cliffs of a UNESCO Natural World Heritage site in northern Italy. It stands on the Alpe di Siusi in South Tyrol — Europe's largest high-altitude alpine pasture — at about 1,800 metres.
The position gives direct access to mountain sport in the Dolomites: skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing in winter, hiking and e-biking in summer. Interiors pair soft colours with furnishings made by South Tyrol's traditional artisans.
The hotel holds one MICHELIN Key, was placed 14th among the Top 20 Hotels in Italy by Condé Nast Traveler Readers' Choice Awards 2025, and was named Best Ski Hotel in South Tyrol by the Falstaff Hotel Guide 2025. It opens seasonally.
Who COMO Alpina Dolomites is best for
COMO Alpina Dolomites is best suited to skiers, hikers, families, wellness travellers and couples wanting a high-altitude base in the Dolomites. It suits travellers who want the mountain itself outside the door, rather than a town or valley hotel with a drive to the lifts.
Skiers and snowboarders
The hotel has direct ski-in ski-out access from the slopes of the Alpe di Siusi, within the Dolomiti Superski region. The Outdoor Activities Centre rents skis, snowboards, boots, sleds and snowshoes. Guided options include a Sella Ronda ski adventure over four mountain passes, snowshoe hikes and snow power biking on spiked winter tyres.
Best for: skiers who want to step from the room onto the snow.
Hikers and cyclists
In summer the Alpe di Siusi is open pasture and high trails. The Outdoor Activities Centre switches to mountain bikes, e-bikes, trekking poles and daypacks. Guided hikes, e-bike tours, a combined e-bike and zipline adventure, and a mindful hike focused on stillness and sensory awareness are all arranged.
Best for: guests who want the Dolomites on foot or by bike, with guides who know the ground.
Families
Play by COMO is a refurbished space for children aged four to twelve, with interactive games, art projects, curated toys and cinema nights, alongside a programme of activities. Rooms start at 50 sq m and take two adults and two children. Children under five eat free, with reduced rates for ages six to twelve. Babysitting is available.
Best for: families who want space, snow or trails, and a club the children will use.
Wellness travellers
The COMO Shambhala floor has nine treatment rooms, a heated 22-metre indoor pool connecting to a seven-metre outdoor pool, a salt steam room, aroma steam room, Finnish sauna, herbal sauna, ice fountain, two cold plunges, two yoga studios, a Pilates-style Space Curl 3D machine designed by NASA and a Technogym fitness centre. Group yoga, Pilates and mindful silent hikes run through the week.
Best for: guests who want altitude, heat-and-ice therapy in one place.
Couples
Every category is generous, from the 50 sq m Mountain Room to the 170 sq m COMO Chalet Suite. Mountain Suites have a bio-ethanol fireplace and a private infrared sauna in the bathroom. South-facing balconies and terraces look straight at the Dolomites.
Best for: couples who want a fire, a sauna and a mountain view from the balcony.
What makes COMO Alpina Dolomites different from other Dolomites hotels
COMO Alpina Dolomites differs from other hotels in the Dolomites in five ways.
| Point of difference | What it means for a guest |
|---|---|
| On the Alm, not in the valley | The hotel sits at 1,800 metres on the Alpe di Siusi itself, with ski-in ski-out access. Most Dolomites hotels are in valley villages with a drive or a lift to the snow. |
| Room size | The entry category is 50 sq m and most rooms take two adults and two children. Alpine hotel rooms rarely start that large. |
| A full wellness floor | Nine treatment rooms, two pools, six heat and cold rooms and two yoga studios — a scale closer to a destination spa than a ski hotel. |
| Restricted road access | Private traffic on the Alm is limited during the day, which keeps the pasture quiet. Hotel guests are issued a transit permit. |
| Four restaurants | A slopeside grill, a buffet and dinner restaurant, a Venetian-Veronese trattoria and a lobby lounge, so a week needs no booking elsewhere. |

Vehicle access to the Alpe di Siusi is restricted during the day without a transit permit, which the hotel arranges for guests. Confirm the current permitted hours with the hotel before travelling, since the published windows differ between sources and an online reservation is being introduced for permitted uphill trips.
The alternative is the Siusi–Alpe di Siusi cableway, which climbs about 800 metres from Seis/Siusi to Compatsch in roughly 15 minutes. The mountain station is a few hundred metres from the hotel. Guests arriving in the middle of the day can leave the car in the valley and take the cableway, with a pickup at the top. The cableway does not run in the shoulder seasons, when the road is open to private traffic through the day.
Winter tyres or chains are required on South Tyrol roads from 15 November to 15 April, and the climb to Compatsch is steep and snow-covered.
