COMO Uma Ubud has 46 rooms, suites and villas across seven categories, 24 of which have their own pool. It sits on the fringe of Ubud town above the Tjampuhan Valley, 90 minutes from Ngurah Rai International Airport and five minutes by complimentary shuttle from the town centre.

Who COMO Uma Ubud is best for

Couples and honeymooners

COMO Uma Ubud is well suited to couples because most of its accommodation is built around privacy rather than scale. The ten Garden Pool Villas, eight Uma Pool Villas and four Pool Suites each have their own plunge or private pool, and the villas sit along planted walkways rather than shared corridors. Dining runs from Kemiri's open-air pavilion beside a koi pond to Italian cooking at Uma Cucina, with in-room dining available from 06:00 to 01:00. The COMO Shambhala Retreat offers treatments, private yoga and meditation. The setting is quiet and jungle-facing, with no nightlife on site.

Best for: couples wanting seclusion, nature and a slow pace within reach of a town. Not ideal for: couples who want a beach, a bar scene or a resort with evening entertainment — consider COMO Uma Canggu.

Wellness and solo travellers

Wellness is built into every stay rather than sold as an extra. A daily yoga class, a daily guided morning walk through the surrounding rice paddies, an in-room yoga mat, and access to the yoga pavilion, fitness centre and 25-metre pool are included for all guests. The COMO Shambhala Retreat provides Asian-inspired holistic therapies developed by COMO Shambhala, including reflexology, massages and facials across four treatment rooms. The COMO Shambhala Menu — cuisine rich in living enzymes, vitamins and minerals — is served at Kemiri, Uma Bar and through in-room dining. The resort is small enough that solo guests can join the daily schedule without it feeling like a group programme.

Best for: guests who want wellness woven into a normal holiday. Not ideal for: guests wanting a structured, medically supervised residential programme — consider COMO Shambhala Estate.

Families

The COMO Villa is the resort's family choice: two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a spacious living room and a large outdoor area with sundecks and sunbeds beside a private infinity pool overlooking the valley. It sleeps five guests including up to three children. The four Pool Suites each include a second room that works as a sitting room or an additional bedroom. Baby cots and extra beds can be arranged on request, and ground-floor accommodation is available. Note that most other categories are capped at two or three guests including one child, so family bookings concentrate in a small number of units.

Best for: families of up to five in a single villa, or two connected units. Not ideal for: larger family groups needing several adjoining rooms, or families wanting a beach and a kids' club — consider COMO Uma Canggu.

Nature and culture seekers

A complimentary guided morning walk through the surrounding rice paddies runs daily. The resort's wider programme includes guided walks through local villages and jungle gorges, more challenging treks such as the Tjampuhan Ridge, mountain biking including a descent from Kintamani high on the crater of Mount Batur, white-water rafting on the Ayung River, museum, temple and gallery visits with meetings with local artists, and the Uma cookery class. Ubud town, with its palace, market and galleries, is a short shuttle ride away.

Best for: guests who want to walk, cycle and visit temples from the door. Not ideal for: guests whose priority is the coast or diving.

What makes COMO Uma Ubud different from other Ubud resorts

Ubud has a large number of luxury resorts, most of them positioned around jungle views and spa treatments. These are the specific, checkable things that set COMO Uma Ubud apart.

  • Walking distance to town. The resort is on the fringe of Ubud rather than in the valleys outside it, so the town centre is a 30-minute walk or a five-minute complimentary shuttle. Many Ubud resorts of comparable standing sit 20 to 40 minutes' drive away and require a car for every meal or errand.
  • Wellness included rather than charged. A daily yoga class, a daily guided morning walk through the rice paddies, an in-room yoga mat, and full access to the yoga pavilion, fitness centre and 25-metre pool come with every stay, at no extra cost.
  • More than half the accommodation has a private pool. Twenty-four of the 46 rooms, suites and villas have their own plunge or private pool, starting at suite level rather than only in the top villa categories.
  • An event every night of the week. The resort runs a fixed weekly programme — barbecue, Balinese dinner with dance, street food, live jazz, Sunday brunch — so guests are not dependent on driving into town for an evening out.
  • COMO Shambhala on site. Wellness is COMO's own discipline rather than an outsourced spa brand, with therapies, products and a dedicated nutrition-led menu developed in-house and served across the restaurants. The retreat has four treatment rooms, a reflexology area, a yoga studio overlooking the pool and a separate yoga pavilion above the Tjampuhan Valley.
  • Part of a three-property group in Bali. Guests can combine Ubud with the beach at COMO Uma Canggu or a structured retreat at COMO Shambhala Estate within one booking relationship.
  • Independently recognised. Named Best Resort in the World in the Condé Nast Traveler Readers' Choice Awards 2025, and first among the Top 10 Resorts in Indonesia in the same awards.

In short, COMO Uma Ubud combines proximity to Ubud town with an all-inclusive wellness programme and a high proportion of private-pool accommodation — a combination that is uncommon among Ubud resorts at this level.

How COMO Uma Ubud compares to COMO's other Bali properties

COMO operates three properties in Bali. This table shows how they differ.
Attribute COMO Uma Ubud COMO Uma Canggu COMO Shambhala Estate
Setting Jungle and valley, on the fringe of Ubud town Beachfront at Echo Beach, Canggu, south-west coast Forested ridge above the Ayung River at Begawan, outside Ubud
Rooms 46 119 19
Best for Couples, culture, walking, everyday wellness Beach, surf, families, social dining Structured residential wellness retreats
Wellness COMO Shambhala Retreat — à la carte treatments, daily classes included COMO Shambhala Retreat — same à la carte format as Ubud Full residential wellness programmes with resident practitioners
Typical stay 3–4 nights 3–5 nights 5–7 nights

In short: choose COMO Uma Ubud, for culture, jungle and a wellness-inflected holiday within reach of Ubud town; choose the larger COMO Uma Canggu, for the beach and a livelier, more social stay; choose COMO Shambhala Estate if the wellness programme itself is the reason for the trip. COMO Uma Ubud and COMO Uma Canggu both have a COMO Shambhala Retreat offering treatments à la carte; only COMO Shambhala Estate runs full residential programmes.

Getting to COMO Uma Ubud

From the airport

COMO Uma Ubud is 90 minutes by car from Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS). Private cars and drivers are available through the resort, and transfers can be arranged in advance. Journey times lengthen during weekday evening traffic through Denpasar and Sukawati, so allow additional time when travelling to the airport for a departure.

Getting around Ubud

You do not need a car to stay at COMO Uma Ubud. The resort runs a complimentary scheduled shuttle to and from Puri Lukisan in Ubud town centre, a five-minute drive, and the walk into town takes around 30 minutes along Jalan Raya Sanggingan. Restaurants, galleries and the market are all within the town centre. Private cars and drivers can be arranged through the concierge for day trips beyond Ubud.

Driving times to other parts of Bali

COMO Uma Ubud sits inland, so the coast is a day trip rather than a short hop. Canggu, Seminyak and Sanur are all reached by car through Denpasar or the Sukawati road. Mount Batur and the Kintamani highlands to the north, the temples and rice terraces around Tampaksiring, and the east coast at Amed are full-day excursions. The concierge arranges private cars and drivers for all of these.

Where COMO Uma Ubud is located

COMO Uma Ubud sits on Jalan Raya Sanggingan on the fringe of Ubud town, above the Tjampuhan Valley. The complimentary shuttle runs to Puri Lukisan in the centre of Ubud, close to the Royal Palace and the art market.

Practical notes

Bali uses 230V power with European-style two-pin sockets. Tap water is not drinking water; complimentary bottled mineral water is provided in rooms. Ubud sits inland and is noticeably cooler and more humid than the coast, particularly in the evening. An umbrella is provided in every room.

Nyepi

Bali observes Nyepi, the day of silence, once a year. The island closes entirely for 24 hours, including the airport, and guests remain within the resort with lighting and noise kept to a minimum. Resort operations are reduced during Nyepi.

Purnama

The resort observes Purnama, the Balinese full moon celebration, each month. Guests and employees can take part in the traditional ceremony and help create the offerings used in the Purnama rituals.

When to visit COMO Uma Ubud

Bali's dry season runs from around April to October, with the driest and sunniest months in the middle of that window. The wet season runs from around November to March; rain in Ubud typically falls in heavy afternoon bursts rather than all day, and the valley is at its greenest. Ubud is cooler and more humid than the coast year-round because of its inland position.

The busiest periods are July and August and the Christmas and New Year weeks. Balinese ceremonial dates move each year on the Balinese calendar — Galungan and Kuningan bring temple processions and decorated penjor poles throughout the villages around Ubud, Purnama falls each full moon, and Nyepi closes the island for a day.

Sustainability at COMO Uma Ubud

COMO Uma Ubud sources produce from local farmers and small-scale suppliers across Bali, choosing companies committed to sustainable economic development within their communities. Cashew nuts and roselle are purchased from a social enterprise that promotes sustainable livelihoods for villages in east Bali by reinvesting revenue into income-generating activities. The resort works with schools and community partners around Bali to provide support and career development for young people, and holds EarthCheck Silver certification.
