Bhutanese cooking classes are relatively uncommon for visitors to Bhutan, and yet Bhutanese cuisine is one of the easiest to master, with a delicious simplicity. As part of the six- and seven-night itinerary, which includes stays at both COMO Uma Paro and COMO Uma Punakha, you can now enjoy a one-hour Bhutanese cooking class, using techniques and ingredients native to this Himalayan country.
For the six-night itinerary, your cooking lessons will take place at COMO Uma Paro, where you will visit the local vegetable market to find fresh, seasonal ingredients. You will make the most popular Bhutanese dish, ‘Emma Datsi’, which is a chilli and cheese curry — two ingredients that feature regularly in Bhutanese cuisine. Our chef will demonstrate how to prepare the meal in an open kitchen beside COMO Uma Paro’s organic vegetable garden, where you can sit down to enjoy after.
For the seven-night itinerary, your cooking lessons will take place at COMO Uma Paro, and also at COMO Uma Punakha where an abundance of local fresh and organic vegetables grow in the lodge's kitchen garden, including chilli, red kale, mustard green, purple beans, okra and zucchini. After the cooking class in Punakha, your meal can be enjoyed on the terrace overlooking the Mo Chhu river.
