Bali: Surfing Without Limits
EXPLORE OUR SURF SAFARIS AT COMO UMA CANGGU
Canggu, the epicentre of Bali’s thriving surf scene. Home to pristine beaches and high-quality swells all year round, its reputation for world-class surfing is well-earned – but it’s only a small part of this island’s story.
“People don’t realise how many surf spots there are in Bali, beyond what they see on social media,” says CJ Kimmel, certified instructor for COMO Uma Canggu’s surf partner, Tropicsurf.
That's the surfer's code, you don't give away your secrets.
Tropicsurf is committed to giving our guests the chance to explore surfing away from the crowds. Their “Surf Safaris” combine a guided surf experience with the opportunity to discover Bali at its most authentic. These thoughtful, small-group excursions grounded in local expertise are as much about the journey as they are the destination. En route to the waves you’ll explore villages, pass through rice paddies, and witness the day-to-day magic of life on the island.
“Sometimes you get stuck behind a ceremony,” laughs Kimmel. “There’s no way through. That’s part of Bali. But those moments slow you right down, and that’s never a bad thing.”
The destinations themselves are a closely guarded secret. “The half-day local safaris go up the west coast beyond Kedungu, and our full eight-hour island safaris explore the east coast,” explains Kimmel, but that’s as much as he can reveal. “That’s the surfer’s code,” he explains. “You don’t give away your secrets.”
It’s from this tightly-held knowledge that the true magic comes, with Tropicsurf’s guides tailoring each journey to secret spots and hidden coves with breaks that complement everyone’s skills.
“A beginner and a confident surfer can still have a great day surfing together if your guide chooses the right place,” says Kimmel.
