Canggu: Three Perfect Days

AT COMO UMA CANGGU

COMO Uma Canggu is an easy-going resort on Bali’s south coast, just a few metres away from some of the country’s best surfing. It’s an ideal place to visit for a long weekend or as part of a wider Bali journey.

Canggu is one of Bali’s most vibrant communities, with a relaxed atmosphere centred around its volcanic black sand beaches and world-renowned waves. We have designed three perfect days at COMO Uma Canggu, showcasing the best of Canggu’s restaurants, sightseeing and surfing.

Day One:

Exploring Canggu

After you’ve arrived and settled into your room or suite, ease any weariness from the journey with a 90-minute full-body COMO Shambhala Massage. Once reinvigorated, it’s time to explore the local area, with a visit to the most iconic of Bali’s seven sea temples, Tanah Lot. The temple is perched on a rock which becomes inaccessible at high tide.

According to local legend, Tanah Lot was built by a powerful sixteenth-century Hindu priest, Dang Hyang Nirarthra, who is said to have enlisted a poisonous sea snake to guard the temple. There’s a sacred freshwater spring at its base, which remains an important site for Balinese rituals.

Once evening falls, The Lawn is just a short walk away for supper. It’s a local favourite, overlooking Batu Bolong beach, where you’ll have an excellent view of the sunset. The restaurant is known for its excellent line-up of artists, so sit back and enjoy a live music or DJ set. The menu offers a range of Indonesian and international dishes, from lobster nachos to fresh yellowfin tuna poke bowls.

After supper, head to Segno Bali, a speakeasy cocktail bar further along the beach. The cocktails — masterminded by bartender Yutaka Nakashima — are second to none, and the bar is open until 2am, leaving plenty of time for dancing.

Day Two:

On the Move

Rise early for a group wellness session, which depending on the daily schedule might be Hatha or Vinyasa yoga, or Pilates. Afterwards, visit COMO Beach Club for a healthy breakfast.

Surfing is at the heart of any visit to Canggu, so once you’re ready to get going, head to the beach for a private surf lesson with luxury outfitters, Tropicsurf. Classes are tailored to every individual and can be adapted for beginners, experts and children. There are multiple surf breaks to explore, as well as lessons in the resort’s lagoon pool if you prefer to avoid the waves.

For lunch, stop off at glow, which serves food from COMO Shambhala Kitchen including healthy salads and energising juices, which will restore your enzyme, vitamin and mineral levels post-exercise.

In the afternoon, you could venture out of Canggu on a guided e-bike tour. It’s a great way to explore the landscape at your own pace, weaving among rice fields and through small rural villages. If it’s a Wednesday, Friday or Sunday, consider returning to COMO Uma Canggu in time for an archery class, held on the lawn at COMO Beach Club.

Sunset drinks are a great way to close off a busy day, settling down at COMO Beach Club for a barrel-aged cocktail or a glass of wine. For supper, enjoy wood-fired meats from the grill or healthy cuisine from COMO Shambhala Kitchen. If you’re not worn out by all the activity, the enormous Atlas Super Club, billed as Bali’s biggest nightclub, is Canggu residents’ favourite place to let loose.

Day Three:

Finishing Up

Start the day with a group wellness session, which depending on the day, might be Hatha or Vinyasa yoga, or Pilates, before eating a final breakfast overlooking the waves at COMO Beach Club. If you’ve time to spare before you leave, the hotel boutique is worth a stop for some last-minute shopping.
