All Summer Long in Florence

UMISSABLE EXHIBITIONS IN FLORENCE THIS SUMMER

Florence’s summer cultural calendar is especially strong this year, with major exhibitions offering fresh reasons to revisit the Renaissance city. The city’s galleries are just 40 minutes’ drive from COMO Castello del Nero. Here, we share Florence’s headline exhibitions to visit this summer.

Palazzo Strozzi

Rothko in Florence

One of Europe’s most hotly anticipated exhibitions this year, Rothko in Florence is curated by Christopher Rothko — the American master’s son and one of the leading scholars of his work — alongside curator Elena Geuna. This major retrospective has been years in development, dedicated to Mark Rothko’s relationship with Renaissance Florence and the lasting impact of the city on his work. Alongside the main presentation at Palazzo Strozzi, works are installed at the Museo di San Marco in dialogue with Fra Angelico’s frescoes, and inside Michelangelo’s Laurentian Library — spaces that deeply influenced Rothko during his visits to Florence in the 1950s and 1960s. Until 23rd August
Museo degli Innocenti

Toulouse-Lautrec

This large-scale exhibition Toulouse-Lautrec: A Journey through the Paris of the Belle Époque explores the artist and the world of Belle Époque Paris through posters, lithographs, paintings and photographs that recreate the atmosphere of late-19th-century Montmartre. Rather than focusing solely on Lautrec as a painter, the show presents him as one of the defining image-makers of modern urban life, with installations inspired by venues including the Moulin Rouge and Le Chat Noir. Set inside Brunelleschi’s Renaissance Innocenti complex, the exhibition offers a striking contrast to Florence’s traditional artistic canon, replacing saints and frescoes with cabaret performers, dancers and Parisian nightlife. Until 7th June

Palazzo Medici Riccardi

Firenze Déco

Firenze Déco explores Florence through the glamour and modernity of the 1920s and early 1930s. Fashion, furniture, jewellery, graphic arts and interior design trace the city’s engagement with the international Art Déco movement, revealing a lesser-known chapter of Florentine cultural history beyond the Renaissance. Installed inside the Medici palace, the exhibition contrasts historic architecture with early modern design, recreating the atmosphere of grand hotels and salons while highlighting Florence’s role in shaping Italian luxury aesthetics during the interwar years. Until 25th August
