Tammy Stokes is a holistic wellness coach with over 30 years’ experience. She’s the Founder and CEO of healthy eating-focused Café West Express, as well as West Coast Workout and Lifestyle Fitness Studio. She’s also the author of Live Your Healthiest Life. Her career began in Hollywood, collaborating with chefs and dieticians to design nutritional recipes, as well as body-shaping workouts. She’s worked alongside well-known doctors Dr Mehmet Oz and Dr Mark Hyman, prepared Hollywood actors for movie roles, and created her own 28-day lifestyle plan, TRANSFORMATION 28.

How would you describe what you do?

I help people attain better health, experience greater self love and discover unconditional happiness. I do this daily through my teachings. Everything I do has an underlying message that inspires movement, mindfulness and health promotion. For three decades, I've been influencing people to eat healthy, be happy and celebrate life.

How did you get started on your own personal wellness journey?

In high school, I taught aerobics at my local health club. People stood in line for my fitness classes. Then at college, I studied nutrition and physical education. Once I graduated, I worked at a health resort in southern California. That's when it clicked; I knew what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. To this day, I teach people how to make their food healthier, their minds happier and their bodies even more beautiful.

What is the single most important thing that everyone should be doing each day to encourage a healthy mind and body?

If I had to pick one thing, it would be movement. Physical exercise that exerts the muscles and elevates the heart rate is good for the body, mind and spirit. Movement is medicine.

Your approach is comprehensive, targeting physical exercise, nutrition and mental health; how do those three elements interact?

Exercise is good. Exercise + good nutrition is better. Exercise + good nutrition + mindfulness is best of all. All together, they are life changing.

How can journaling contribute to a healthy mind and body?

Journaling is a mindfulness practice. It allows you to empty your thoughts onto paper. After you’ve cleared your mind, write down something you are grateful for. Gratitude is the path to unconditional happiness.

Do you have a favourite workout? What does it entail?

It’s funny, every time I teach a workout I say that it was my favourite one. I use a variety of workouts because it's the best way to cross condition the body. All my workouts are based on three principles: 1. Function  2. Flow  3. Future. My workouts create a functional body that can flow gracefully through movement patterns. I consider the future of the body a top priority.

What are the basic principles of good nutrition?

Eat light. Eat real food. Eat mostly plants.

LIFE! Life is so beautiful when it is lived well.

What are you most looking forward to about visiting COMO Parrot Cay?

Meeting new people who are as excited as I am about healthy lifestyle practices.

What is the aim of your retreat at COMO Parrot Cay?

I want guests to leave inspired to make one major change in their lifestyle that will have the most profound impact possible. If they make one change and master it as a habit, it will forever impact the rest of their life.
