Watching the race
Watching the race can often be just as exciting as taking part. On the day of the event, there’s typically a festival in Gaiole, full of good wine, good food and lots of music.
Taking part in the race
Eroica rides are organised exclusively for ‘Bici Eroiche’ (Historical Bikes): road-racing bikes built in or before 1987, with and without gears.
Your clothing must also be of class inspiration – such as wool jerseys and bib shorts, or acrylic or other materials that were used until the late ‘80s. Likewise, your accessories should comply with the spirit of the event. The only modern accessory allowed (and recommended) is a modern safety helmet.
Cycling the L'Eroica route year round
Open all year round, the route is well-marked with permanent signs, stretching from Gaiole in Chianti – where the race was first born – to Val d'Orcia, across the Val d'Arbia and up to Montalcino. It’s an extremely scenic ride, past farmhouses, vineyards and sprawling green hills.
