Heritage Tasting dinner at nahm
At Michelin-starred nahm, the Heritage Tasting dinner draws on Chef PimTechamuanvivit’s family recipes, childhood memories, antique books and obscure Thai heritage to deliver authentic, layered flavours. For a masterclass in Southern Thai cuisine, order the gaeng pu bai cha plu: a southern turmeric curry of blue swimmer crab sharpened with calamansi lime and perfumed by betel leaf. The curry’s fresh marine sweetness, earthy turmeric, citrus acidity and peppery leaf shows how southern Thai food builds intensity without relying on chilli heat alone.
Tea-Blending at Araksa
One of COMO Metropolitan Bangkok’s Iconic Experiences, the tea blending workshop at Araksa Tea Room explores the flavours, aromas and characteristics of premium tea varieties before guests craft a personalised blend to take home. Ingredients are fully personalised, ranging from single-origin black tea to fragrant lemongrass and vivid blue butterfly-pea blossom. It’s a chance to connect modern Bangkok with northern Thailand’s tea-growing landscape, cultivated since the 13th-century, when Assam tea leaves were fermented into miang, a sour, aromatic chew central to local trade and ritual.
Wine Tasting in the Monsoon Valley
Around a three-hour drive south of COMO Metropolitan Bangkok is Thailand’s Monsoon Valley, a winery occupying a former elephant corral. Founded in 2001, the vineyard set out to prove that wine grapes could flourish at the northern hemisphere’s 13th latitude with climate-adapted pruning, harvest cycles and winemaking. Another of COMO Metropolitan Bangkok’s Iconic Experiences, this full-day excursion includes a guided vineyard tour, and a tasting of five wines including Colombard, Chenin Blanc, Sangiovese, Rondo and Shiraz grapes. It’s a rare encounter with tropical viticulture in a country whose modern grape-wine industry only emerged in the late 20th century.
The floating market of Amphawha
Around 90 minutes southwest of COMO Metropolitan Bangkok, the floating kitchens at Amphawha offer a glimpse of traditional Thai culture. Open from Friday to Sunday, between 10am and 8.30pm, the best time to visit is in the late afternoon, when the canal-side grills gather pace. Order charcoal-grilled river prawns or squid with a fierce chilli, lime and garlic dip, then seek out Maeboonmee Noodles for hot-and-sour pork broth loaded with glass noodles, roast and minced pork, liver, prawns and crackling. In addition to a guided tour of the market, the concierge at COMO Metropolitan Bangkok can also arrange a long-tail-boat exploration of the surrounding waterways.
Grazing at Chatuchak Weekend Market
Chatuchak Weekend Market is around 15 minutes’ drive from COMO Metropolitan Bangkok, open each Saturday and Sunday, between 9am and 6pm. Arrive early, before the heat thickens and wander the maze of stalls including hill tribe crafts, local antiques, musical instruments, and Buddhist amulets. For the best snacks, head to Hello Garlic near the Section 2 entrance for warm bread on sticks brushed with garlic butter or sweetened-milk glaze. Or for something sweet, head to Section 1, where Coco JJ dishes up coconut ice cream topped with sticky rice, mung beans and palm seeds.
